About CareQED

What CareQED Is

CareQED is an independent, free tool that helps families and caregivers research and compare U.S. nursing homes using official government data. We bring together CMS quality ratings, inspection histories, staffing levels, and deficiency records for more than 14,000 Medicare- and Medicaid-certified facilities, and present them in a way that's easier to read and interpret than raw government tables.

We are an independent service and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) or Medicare.gov.

Our Methodology

Every facility figure shown on CareQED — star ratings, certified beds, staffing hours per resident day, inspection dates, and deficiency counts — comes directly from official CMS public datasets. We do not alter the underlying numbers.

The "CareQED Analysis" summaries on facility, state, and city pages are written by an AI model that is given only the official CMS figures for that location and instructed to summarize them factually and compare them to state or national averages. These summaries are generated automatically and are not individually reviewed by a person. They are intended to help interpret the data, not to replace your own judgment or professional advice.

Data is refreshed when CMS publishes updated datasets. Each facility, state, and city page shows the relevant CMS dataset update dates and when CareQED last refreshed the information.

Data Sources

CareQED uses the following official CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) public datasets:
